TideWhisper is for people aged 18 and over. These rules apply to discovery messages, conversations, profiles and other interactions on the service. They support our Terms of Use. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
You do not need to share your real name to use TideWhisper, but you are responsible for how you treat others. Respect people’s boundaries and their choice to end a conversation. Information you share may reveal your identity, so take care with personal details.
What is not allowed
Harassment and abuse. Do not threaten, intimidate, bully, stalk or sexually harass anyone. Hateful attacks and repeated contact after someone has asked you to stop are not allowed.
Sexual content and exploitation. Do not share pornography, sexually explicit material or non-consensual intimate content, or make unwanted sexual advances. Sexual exploitation and sexual content involving children are strictly prohibited.
Scams and phishing. Do not impersonate others, make deceptive offers, solicit money or investments, or try to obtain passwords, verification codes or financial details. This includes fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes.
Spam. Do not send unsolicited advertising, bulk messages or repetitive content intended to overwhelm others or manipulate how bottles are picked up.
Spam bots and automated accounts. Do not use bots, scripts or other automated tools to create accounts, send or reply to messages, or pick up bottles, and do not run accounts that are not operated by a real person.
Links and contact details in bottles and nicknames. Do not put links, email addresses or phone numbers in bottles or nicknames. We use automated checks to help enforce this rule, so a bottle or nickname that includes them may be rejected. In a conversation, share contact details only with people you trust.
Other harmful or unlawful conduct. Do not encourage violence or self-harm, facilitate illegal sales, share another person’s private information without permission, infringe their rights, or distribute malware. Do not evade blocks, restrictions or security controls, or submit knowingly false or coordinated abusive reports.
We may remove content available to us, restrict access and make legally required disclosures when addressing serious harm or unlawful activity. End-to-end encryption does not mean that harmful conduct is permitted.
Blocking
From the conversation, open the person’s profile and select Block user. Blocking prevents that user from contacting you through the app. Device-level blocks can remain after an account is deleted and recreated.
You do not need to submit a report or explain your decision to block someone. You can block simply because you no longer want contact.
Reporting
From the person’s profile, select Report user and choose the category that best describes the issue. If you select Other, you can add a short explanation.
Reports include the category and explanation you submit and are linked to the users involved. They do not include your conversation and do not give us the keys to decrypt it.
When adding an explanation, describe what happened clearly and avoid unnecessary personal information. If the available categories or text field do not cover the issue, contact us through Support. Please do not send passwords, PINs or private encryption keys.
Report records can remain after either account is deleted, helping us identify repeat abuse. The Privacy Policy explains the information retained and how it is used, including the limits of conversation encryption.
What happens next
Reports and previous restrictions may trigger automated suspensions or bans. A restriction does not necessarily mean a person has reviewed your conversation. Moderation cannot detect or prevent every violation.
AI checks may reject bottles or nicknames that appear to break these rules, or flag bottles with warnings. They may be unavailable or mistaken, and never suspend or ban an account by themselves.
Restrictions may apply to a device as well as an account. Deleting an account and creating another on the same device does not remove device-level restrictions. To protect privacy and safety, we may limit the details we share about action involving another user.
If you believe a rejection or restriction is mistaken, ask Support to review it. Explain what happened and why you believe it is wrong. We may need information to identify the affected account or device.
If someone is in danger
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. TideWhisper is not an emergency service, and in-app reports are not a way to obtain urgent assistance.
